- Client:Ahavath Beth Israel Synagogue
- Size:8,500 sf
Description: Cole + Poe Architects, P.A. worked with CM Company, Inc. to plan, design and construct a new 8,500 sf educational, administrative and social hall for this Boise Jewish Congregation. The congregation’s existing 3,300 sf historic Synagogue was over 100 years old and located on an extremely small site in a commercial area. As the congregation grew, the existing facility became much too small and no property was available around the Synagogue. The congregation elected to sell the existing site and relocate the historic Synagogue to a larger suburban site.
Cole + Poe Architects developed a master plan for full build out of the site which included additional classrooms, a larger Synagogue and a number of amenities such as a community garden, entry plaza and biblical garden.
CM Company, Inc. provided budgeting and constructability review during the pre-construction phase of this project. While working with the congregation, through an extended programming, design and fund raising phase, a project which met the congregation’s $1.9 million budget and functional needs was accomplished. CM Company, Inc. constructed the new social hall/educational wing and prepared a new foundation for the historic synagogue. New construction was completed in November of 2003, at which time the historic Synagogue was moved to the new site where it was placed on the new foundation, the building was refurbished and the original sandstone foundation relayed around the basement.
This unique design and construction project was successfully completed for congregation Ahavath Beth Israel through the close cooperation and teamwork among the congregation’s building committee, Cole + Poe Architects and CM Company, Inc. This illustrates the abilities of CM Company, Inc. and Cole + Poe to work together to successfully meet an owner’s needs.
